Face to Face Manta Ray Ring

Face to Face Manta Ray Ring

from $135.00

Handmade in solid sterling silver

Did you know manta rays are FISH? In fact, they are related to sharks because they both belong to the Elasmobranchii subclass and are characterized by a skeleton made of cartilage instead of bone. Manta rays give birth to live young which means baby mantas are born looking like miniature adults! They receive no further care from their mothers. Fertilized eggs cases grow inside the mother until the pup is developed – this is estimated to take as long as one year, from mating to birth.

The average wingspan of a manta ray is 22 feet and they can weigh up to 3,000 lbs! They are highly intelligent... and unfortunately highly threatened. The top threats that mantas face include fishing, both for commercial purposes and accidentally being caught in fishing gear (bycatch). Some of their parts are used in traditional Asian medicine. So in short. HUMANS.
